Yoga Apparel

Let’s be honest…most people that wear yoga apparel have never taken a yoga course before. Still, that doesn’t mean that you can’t look great while pretending to play the part.

If you are going to take a class, make sure to purchase pants and shirts that are loose fitting and comfortable. Though some people attend classes decked out in designer yoga wear, this is simply not what yoga is all about. Instead of worrying about the brand of clothes that you choose, search for an outfit that really fits your body. You want to be able to move freely without any concern that your pants might fall down or your shirt might slip. Instead, look for something that is loose, yet somewhat lived-in. When choosing yoga apparel, the most important thing to look for is the waist band of those pants.

Some pants include a drawstring waist. Drawstring waists are the best type out there, since they are universally flattering all around. Some pants include an elastic waist, which should only be worn if they suit your body type. A few people wear old sweatpants to classes, and these are fine if they fit you, but you will probably be more comfortable in a pair of breathable sport pants. No matter what you do, be sure to wear fabrics that breathe well in order to wick the sweat away from your body. If you are considering a hot yoga course, look for clothes that allow for a large amount of air flow.

If you have no intention of every setting foot inside of a yoga studio, you don’t have to be concerned with sweat-proof materials. However, you should still look for a pair of pants that are loose, and a top that is not too form fitting. Finally, be sure that the pants you choose cover your underwear line completely. There is nothing more unattractive than an underwear line that is showing too much. You can easily find lots of yoga apparel online or in any retail store. The key is to look put together while still feeling comfortable.

As far as shoes go, look for a pair that is somewhat athletic. If you are heading to a studio you don’t have to wear any special shoes. However, if you are heading to the grocery store try and pick a pair that looks the part.

Try on all yoga apparel before buying it…or at least make sure that the store has a good return policy. Sometimes, these clothes look better on the hanger than they do on a real person.
