If you have always shied away from yoga due to a lack of flexibility, then you should think about using yoga straps. Contrary to popular belief, this sport is not all about getting it right the first time around.
Many people think that they cannot complete any form of yoga if they are not flexible. However, this sport is not about being flexible at all. Yoga straps are generally made from nylon or cotton. The intention of the strap is to allow you to stretch farther than you can on your own. Additionally, these props will help you to hold a pose for a longer period of time. For example, those that cannot touch their toes often use a strap in order to grab at their feet. By using the prop, they can hold onto their feet for a longer period of time. This way, the body will still benefit from the pose without pushing it too far. As previously mentioned, the stronger you get the less you will need to use the props.
You can purchase straps in a variety of colors online from any yoga shop. Ask your instructor how to use the straps properly before trying to use them on your own. Soon enough you will see that all those difficult poses are within you reach.
Remember, the idea behind yoga is not to push yourself towards pain. Instead, the idea is to create a powerful body and mind with the help of yoga straps that will allow you to reach ultimate limits.
